CPD Requirements

Starting January 1, 2026, the Council for Estate Agencies (CEA) will require property agents to complete 16 training hours annually for Continuing Professional Development (CPD). This is an increase from the previous requirement of six CPD credits. The 16 hours are split into two components: 12 hours of Structured Learning (SL) and 4 hours of Self-directed Learning (SDL). 

Structured Learning (12 hours)

• Prescribed Essentials: Four of the 12 SL hours must be from "Prescribed Essentials," which cover topics like ethics, laws, and regulations governing the property market.

• Other SL: The remaining 8 hours of Structured Learning can be on other professional competencies pertinent to your work. 

Self-directed Learning (4 hours)

• This component allows for flexibility in learning, covering a range of relevant topics. 

Key changes for 2026

• Requirement change: The new requirement is a minimum of 16 training hours per year, up from the previous 6 credits (6-9 hours).

• New CPD cycle: The CPD cycle will shift from October to September to January to December.

• New system: A new CPD system will be implemented in January 2026.

• Enhanced framework: The enhancement is designed to raise professionalism, meet rising consumer expectations, and ensure agents remain relevant. ​​​​​​​

Medisave liabilities

 

Fulfil your Central Provident Fund (CPF) Medisave contribution by 30 September 2025.

Under Section 3(1) of the Central Provident Fund (Self-Employed Persons) Regulations, self-employed persons who earn a yearly income of more than $6,000 a year are required to contribute to CPF Medisave for their healthcare and retirement needs.

Agents are required to fulfil their CPF obligations by 30 September 2025, before the start of the renewal exercise.

Those who are in arrears of their CPF Medisave contribution and are not on any instalment repayment plan approved by the CPF Board by then will not be allowed to take part in the renewal exercise. They will hence be unable to carry out estate agency work from 1 January 2026 onwards.
